Stuck fang

Stuck Lip

One thing that I love about Dreyfuss is how his lip occasionally gets stuck on one of his teeth. I’m not sure how it happens though because I’ve tried to do it myself and it never sticks. I managed to catch this picture of him the other day, but it doesn’t really capture the hilarity.

As if I don’t watch enough TV

It’s easier now.

After 8 long years as a Comcast customer, through good and bad times, I had to say goodbye today.

It’s a weird thing. I used to hate Comcast with the fire of a thousand suns. Their service sucked, their prices were inflated, but frankly, I didn’t have a lot of options. I live so far South that any additions in Olathe (such as Everest Surewest or AT&T U-verse) were not available.

Until about a month ago.

After much haggling, I finally found out that AT&T U-verse was finally available in our neighborhood. I went through the process of figuring out what they offered and comparing it to what I had with Comcast.

Here’s what they were offering:

  • 4-room DVR
  • HD capabilities in all rooms
  • HBO, Showtime and Starz
  • 3MB Internet

All of that for less than what I was paying for Comcast by about $50.

Not really wanting to go through the hassle of the switch, I called 1-800-COMCAST to see if they could help me out. The guy on the phone basically said, “Sorry dude. Can’t really help.”

So today, Gary from AT&T installed our new U-verse service.

Funny sidebar

@ComcastMelissa reached out to me via Twitter after I stated my situation while AT&T was here. After a pleasant exchange, which I really appreciated, I had to tell her that it was just a little too late.

And it was. I probably should have reached out to the Twitter team a little earlier. The work that Comcast has done in changing my opinion of them is actually quite impressive. As a student of social media, I often use Comcast as my example for success. By all accounts, I should be glad to leave Comcast. But I’m a little sad. They just couldn’t compete on price.

Go see Bekah Ash!

This weekend is one of my favorite Kansas City events — The Plaza Art Fair.

Last year, I didn’t think that the show was that great and if Jake’s report (via text) is any indication, it may not be much better this year (we’re going down sometime today or tomorrow just to be sure), but there’s one artist that we discovered last year and that I know is there this year that you should see:

Alli's portrait

Bekah Ash

Alli and I discovered Bekah on our annual stroll through the fair last year. Alli was so struck by her work that we almost bought one of her smaller pieces on the spot. But we didn’t.

I didn’t forget about her work. Alli wouldn’t let me.

For her as an artist to take such note of Bekah’s work I felt was a great compliment. I paid attention and reached out to Bekah almost immediately to see if she would do a custom piece for Alli for Christmas.

The picture on this post is the fruit of her labor. Working with her was terrific. Totally friendly and accommodating to what I was looking for, even when I wasn’t sure what that was.

If you’ve paid attention to any of the billboards for the Plaza Art Fair, you might recognize the style. Bekah is the featured artist for the fair this year and its well-deserved. I feel very lucky to have a piece of hers hanging in our house. Go and check her out.

In a silo

I hear you, Jake.

I’m well aware of the lack of actual blogging that I have done lately. I really feel disconnected to everything outside of work, home, Alli and Dreyfuss. The only thing I am positive of outside of those things is that in football, the Chiefs stink worse than my fantasy football team, the Long Haired Hippies.

At work, they call isolated focus “being in a silo”. So I guess this is me just looking outside.

The Cerner Health Conference is just around the corner and I am driving the CHC Connect blog and the Web 2.0 initiatives surrounding the conference. To do this, I have been given the services of an iPhone. DID YOU HEAR THAT? AN IPHONE.

In fact, I am writing this post from the free WordPress iPhone app.

So there’s that.

Evenings I come home and spend time with my favorite dog and the best wife ever.

It’s simple. But it’s a very good life.
