First of the year
I’ve put this off as long as possible, but I can’t keep it in any longer.
Herm Edwards must go.

I’ve said this before, I know. And if you would have told me that the Chiefs would lose 17-10 in week one at the Patriots, I would have taken it. Unfortunately, I – like many other Chiefs fans – saw the sorry excuse for a game.
Listening to the post-game interviews was like listening to Fox News or MSNBC after a big speech by one of the presidential candidates…you could predict exactly what everyone was saying and none of it really meant anything.
Look. It’s unfortunate that the NFL’s MVP was lost for the year, but the person that I feel worst for in that situation is Bernard Pollard. Brady will be fine, but Pollard is going to be demonized for the rest of his career (think Rodney Harrison-Trent Green, but 100x worse) for a clean, hard-working play.
I can’t believe that no one has said anything about how Moss caught the ball on the play that Brady was injured on and then promptly fumbled it away. Moss, who didn’t see the play, thought it was dirty, but he “doesn’t even know how to play dirty.” (BTW, read the comments on the link…they are hilarious.)

The other travesty in this game besides Brady’s injury was Herm Edwards’ inability to come up with any sort of gameplan at all. This is a game the Chiefs should have won. They got the Patriots to turn the ball over and they did not have to play against Brady, yet their offense was just as boring as normal (and don’t blame it on Brody…the Chiefs receivers sucked yesterday). Where was all this great innovation that Chan Gailey was going to bring to the Chiefs offense? I suppose it doesn’t matter when your head coach is a MORON.
Really…4 chances to go 5 yards at the end of the game…D-Bowe drops, so you go back to him instead of the greatest tight end in history or your multimillion dollar running back?
Will someone please tell me how this man is still an NFL coach? Career record is still an abysmal 54-64.
Other thoughts?
- Huard is not – I repeat NOT - an upgrade. He is HORRIBLE. I could have made that throw to Darling. THAT’S how open he was.
- That supposedly upgraded run defense? Not so much. Dorsey was not in on a single play.
- Jamal Charles should start for the Chiefs. That guys is FAST.
- BJ Sams is not Dante Hall.
- Tony Gonzalez and D-Bowe are our only receivers worth anything. And D-Bowe dropped WAY too many balls to get 3 at the end of the game.
- The CBS Scene…DUMB.

I agree with most of your points. I disagree with getting rid of Herm, yet. I know Darling was open on that pass Huard made, but you didn’t mention how big of a hit Huard took while standing his ground in the pocket. I don’t know that Huard is an upgrade, but I don’t know if Croyle was upset or relieved that he didn’t have to go back out there.

Let it go man. Let it go.
Herm isn’t the problem. His gameplan kept your team in the ballgame. Is it his fault that you don’t have an NFL caliber QB on the roster? Maybe so. Why not call for Peterson to leave? What do you have against the brother? How long has he been here? What about the guy who has overseen this whole “debacled”?
Tony Gonzalez? He can’t get open anymore. He hasn’t been open in like 7 years. He always has 3 guys draped on him. He has no speed. The greatest TE of all time? Well, that is up for debate. He’s never won a playoff game. Great players will their team to success.
I can blame Croyle. If old Huard comes in with the same gameplan and gets the team some points, then you can point towards your fragile QB.
The defense is what it is…young. Speaking of, where was your multimillion dollar savior Jared Allen last night? He was no better than Dorsey. You guys cried a river when Carl let him go. I’d have made that move any day.
As far as beating NE without Brady? Uh, the Patriots went 18-1 last season. I think they are more than Tom Brady. Your defense couldn’t stop Maroney nor Morris.
How about get a new defensive coordinator? Cunningham needs to go. Who brought him here? Carl. Oh, but fire Herm. Okay.
Fire Herm when he was saddled with Mike Solari and Gunther? He couldn’t even bring “his guys” in here. Do you think Herm would be stuck with these old cats if he had a choice? I don’t think so.
The Chiefs’ problem is bigger than Herm. Maybe you want to go back to the glory days of Dick Vermeil. All glitz but no substance. Playoff flameouts. High scores and no defense. Plenty of touchdowns and letdowns come December/January.
I’ll take my chances with Herm’s gameplan. First off, you need a real quarterback. You have to start there. You diehard Chief fans think that because Croyle can make “all the throws” that he is a potential pro bowl QB. I think not.
Bowe is no #1 WR. Only in KC. KC fans are so starved for a WR who can catch the ball. The main reason you guys haven’t developed anyone at that position is because your “all world” TE demanded the ball for all those years. No team will win anything substantive with the TE leading them in receptions.
Clark, sign Herm up for another 10 years.

Run, Run, Short pass and punt.
Run, Run, Short pass and punt.
Run, Run, Short pass and punt.
Run, Run, Short pass and punt.
Run, Run, Short pass and punt.
Run, Run, Short pass and punt.
That’s a game plan that can’t win in the NFL. Herm gets the credit for Gailey’s incompetence and we all know King Karl doesn’t care as long as he can fill the seats.

RDM, you are an idiot. tony gonzalez catches the ball almost everytime it’s thrown to him. i agree with one point you made. fire carl. that guy is completely to blame for the chiefs going to shit. jared allen WAS awesome when he was with us. he made big plays, and he played with some enthusiasm. something that our team lacks. dwayne bowe is good, but not as good as HE thinks. he needs to stop with his cocky attitude because he hasn’t done anything special yet. herm sucks. he is a terrible coach. you need to step in and make some bigtime decisions when your team is on the 5 yard line for 4 downs to tie the game.
and is it just me, or was that last play clearly pass interference on bowe? i’m not saying it’s an excuse, but it seemed pretty clear to me that his arms were being held down. our offense is where we need help. why would we fire gunther when our defense is clearly our biggest strength. croyle is a better quarterback, physically. he just needs to build up his confidence because he has none yet. but huard is still the one making the bigger plays. both are making mistakes. anyway, that game was way more exciting than expected. nobody thought the chiefs would have a game that close (and we didn’t even play that good…).

You, like so many other Chiefs fans, want to blame the coach. The real problem here is Carl Peterson. He makes the personnel decisions.
He’s the one that chose the starting QB last season and helped destroy Croyle’s confidence.
The problem is not the coaches, hell, the last 3 were nothing but Peterson’s puppets. Herm from philly, Dick from philly, Gunter “worst coach ever” Cunningham.. what a joke.
Carl Peterson has been the master behind the debacle from day 1.

i am ALL for getting rid of peterson. how do we make that happen? he has been running this team into the toilet with his awful (or lack of) management. he needs to step down and let somebody else take over and bring this team back on track.
i’m not saying herm’s not to blame here. herm sucks at coaching. he lets his offensive coordinator call the worst plays over and over and over again. it’s exactly like Dreymac said. you can’t win with that kind of gameplan. one of these days, edwards needs to take some f’n responsibility and say “look, i/we made a mistake. we called some AWFUL plays and they whooped our ass because of it.” i can’t stand herm edwards. i can’t stand carl peterson. both need to get out of kansas city, because they are doing nothing but bring us down.

FIRE CARL!! CARL MUST GO!! Even though the CHIEFS won’t make the playoffs this year, i think we should get credit for finally winning a playoff game. We essentially knocked the Pats out of super bowl contention. That’s as good as a playoff win right? The Patriots aren’t ALL Tom Brady, but they went from a Super Bowl lock to a certain one and done playoff team.

I dunno who in the top of the organization is responsible for the suck. I am not a savvy enough watcher to tell if its Carl, Herm, the assistant coaches.
I know tho that you cannot blame a player for not having talent. It can piss you off, but its not like he can just buy talent at the snack bar. Speaking of talent I agree with the comments about Gonzales, Bowe dropped more passes than Tony even got a chance at.
In the end, I’ll keep watching and rooting for the guys, but I don’t have high expectations so it will be harder to be disappointed.

I can’t believe that some of you are still pulling for Herm Edwards. I did not like his game plan in New York. “WE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME, WE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME” The last time I checked you play to win superbowls. My personal opinion he is the type that you put 3 pts on the board and expect the defense to play all day. That crap does not work in the NFL. I have never played football except for backyard but I know better then that you go for the throat take your opponents out early. ATL did just that, took the chiefs out of the equation early. Goodbye Herm and GOODBYE ESPECIALLY CARL PETERSON!!!!!!!!!!!
