I was wrong about Diddy

Diddy

The first I remember hearing about Puff Daddy back near the time that Notorious B.I.G. died…it was about the time that More Money, More Problems came out with Puff and MA$E. I LOVE that song. But I remember never being able to comprehend what the big deal was about Sean Combs.

Fast-forward like 10 years and Puff Daddy/P Diddy/Diddy is still around. In fact, in a world where (to coin a phrase from Heidi Klum) “one day you’re in, the next day you’re out” Diddy has been a constant in the music world. Now, for the past couple years, he’s been taking the fashion world by storm with his Sean John line of clothing. Unlike other music empresarios, his clothes are actually WEARABLE.

When the first “Making the Band” group came out, it (frankly) sucked. Back then it was run by Backstreet Boys loser leader Lou Perlman. Making the Band 2 was run by Diddy and it sucked, but by Making the Band 3, Diddy found his groove. And while it was stretched over 2 seasons, Danity Kane has been the most successful group formed by the unintentional awfulness that is Making the Band.

Let it be known that I don’t attribute the awfulness to Diddy. He’s by far the most appealing part of the show. But now that they have Danity Kane in the same house as the Making the Band 4 dudes, it’s on like Donkey Kong. Funny stuff.

Sean Combs has come a long way from the crappy Notorious B.I.G. tribute set to The Police song. He’s much more tolerable now…maybe even someone I would hang out with. I always saw him as a Suge Knight or even a Damon Dash. But he’s not. He’s Diddy. And he’s awesome.

  1. i agree. not to mention, he is also a sweet rapper. you put “featuring diddy” on one of your songs and it is guaranteed to be a hit.

  2. The only nice thing I have to say about Diddy is that he is a true chameleon. He can be totally cool one minute and then the next become a bag of douche. I think his identity crisis is what keeps everyone interested.

  3. Can’t say I ever expected this post. I can’t believe you just took a big crap on Making the Band 2. That show is immortal after spawning the unlikely catch phrase “I spit hot fire” and the career of Farnsworth Bentley. Seriously, the guy gets paid for walking around with an umbrella.

Coincidently, I have been reorganizing my music collection and just happened to rip “Mo Money, Mo Problems” off of Life After Death this weekend.
