I’m not sure exactly how long I’ve had this watch, but I know that since I’ve been without it after we returned from Italy, my wrist hasn’t felt right.
I’ve had many watches over my lifetime, but I never could really find one that fit my sensibility. I wanted something that looked classy, but didn’t have a metal band since I have hairy arms and that hurts. I wanted a watch I could wear everyday so it would have to go with work stuff as well as jeans and a t-shirt.
After years of searching for the right watch, Alli found it for me. It was that moment where you see something and you love it and you just hope that it looks right on you. After I tried it on, I knew that I would never want another watch.
And I don’t.
That’s why when the band broke several months ago, I was devastated. I could have very easily replaced the band, even with one straight from Diesel, but I couldn’t be certain that it would be the same band that the watch came with. The band is such an important part of the watch to me…it’s really its defining feature…I couldn’t risk it.
Then I lost my watch. OK, I didn’t lose it. I misplaced it under the mountain of paperwork that had piled up in my home office. (You’d think that with the custom desk, I wouldn’t lose stuff or have troubles staying organized, but you’d be wrong.)
Without a watch, I struggled. I went to Target and got a $20 Mossimo watch. While for a $20 watch, it was pretty cool, it just wasn’t the same. Then I cleaned my office a couple weeks ago and found my watch. On a department lunch outing, I passed a shoe repair shop and stopped in to see if they’d be able to mend my broken band. I had my doubts considering this particular repair shop in Fairway seemed to not use their heating on this absolutely freezing day. But for $10, it was worth a shot.
After a weekend of painful waiting, my watch has returned to its rightful place on my wrist. My arm feels whole again. My wrist looks cool again. It’s a good day.

I know that shop in Fairway that you’re talking about. I was a little leary as well when we took a pair of my wife’s fav shoes in there to repair some water damage.
But when I picked them up, the looked great and the price was very reasonable. A great experience and I’m planning on writing a review of the place one of these days.
