When I was a pup, I was an usher at a movie theater. We would invariably have complaints about this or that, and we would make gestures as though to address them, but really we would do nothing at all. The most common was when people would complain about the theater being too hot or too cold. The thermostat was down by the screen, so we’d make a big deal out of waving our flashlight around and pretending to change the setting. The people would come to us after the show to thank us for changing it. They were so much more comfortable.
