So Many to Blame…

It’s been 3 years since the Chiefs have dropped 2 games in a row at Arrowhead Stadium. I remember attending a game last year in which they put a quote up on the screen from Steve Young that said that he believed that Arrowhead Stadium had lost its mystique. In that game, the Chiefs beat down the Broncos and I was convinced that there was nothing wrong with The Greatest Outdoor Professional Stadium.

Listening (on my way back from preaching in Manhattan) and watching the Chiefs lose their second straight at home to a bad bad Broncos team I realized that someone is responsible for this loss of pride in our home field.

I’m going to do what I did last year and call for the firing of Herman Edwards. He has single-handedly destroyed a once great franchise with awful coaching. Carl Peterson certainly has had his role in the miserable nature of our football team, but I’ve made peace with the fact that he will continue to be our general manager until his deal with the devil runs out.

I call for Herm’s firing because he is the one is most responsible for the absolute awfulness of this year’s team. From the beginning of the season when he chose Damon Huard as the starter (we saw today that I was right all along – Huard never deserved it) to showcasing our abysmal team on HBO to sticking with antiquated cornerbacks and keeping Mike Solari as offensive coordinator…there are too many reasons to count. His philosophy on the game sucks and while we might make the playoffs occasionally while he’s here, we will not come close to the Super Bowl until there is a complete overhaul of the front office. Peterson, Edwards, Denny Thum – all should go.

The encouraging thing about the game today is that we still have Dwayne Bowe, who is a bona fide superstar. In fact, even Brodie Croyle managed to look OK, although the pick he threw directly to Champ Bailey was pretty bad. At least he provided somewhat of a spark to the offense, even if our terrible line managed to continue to let us down.

What an awful game. There aren’t many things I hate more than the Denver Broncos. Losing to them at home might be the worst of all.

Something needs to happen with the Chiefs. What we’ve got going right now isn’t working.
