Save Studio 60!

Via Buzz Patrol, I saw this on Foxnews.com.

Studio 60 Cancellation Imminent

In an unbelievable stroke of idiocy, people are not watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, even though it is one of the best-made shows on TV. I beg of you, dear reader. If you are not watching this show, please give it a chance. It is genius. It’s funny and well-written and well-acted.

Please.

UPDATE (from IMDb.com’s Studio Briefing):

NBC Chief Says ‘Studio 60′ Will Stay

NBC Universal CEO Robert Wright has denied reports that Aaron Sorkin‘s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is about to be canceled. In an interview with FoxNews.com’s Roger Friedman, who originally quoted insiders as saying that the show was about to be yanked from the network’s schedule, Wright said such a move was unlikely because “We have too much money invested in it. … I think it will go on.”

  1. This show thoroughly STINKS like a fish market in Vietnam. Seriously, did someone at NBC not get the memo that The West Wing was on the air about three seasons too long and that rebuilding it as Studio 60 was probably a bad idea? I mean, the characters and players are just too similar. Even the Stedicam work and the SET design are waaay too much like TWW.

I, for one, will not miss this show. Especially since CBS cancelled my new favorite, Smith, I will rejoice in watching other lesser shows falter and die.

On another completely unrelated note, I watched Robo Cop 3 this morning on Encore Action. Probably the most worthless movie ever made. If you can’t get Peter Weller to dress up in the costume again just to make more money, something’s wrong. BUT! Bradley Whitford of The West Wing and Studio 60 fame, not Aerosmith, has a supporting role as a VP of the vicious OCP Inc. who “eats” a bullet halfway through the film.

  2. BOOOOOO Crafty! Boooooo.

Studio 60 is a good show, but it isn’t about politics (obviously), which makes most people go ZZZZZZZ. It’s about entertainment. Stuff that people (like myself, particularly) get into much more easily than pompous stuff like The West Wing.

And yet the show still manages to tackle decent subjects. I’m sorry you feel that way about my favorite show on TV…don’t be bitter just because that crappy Ray Liotta show got cancelled.

  3. But it IS about poltics!! And thats part of what makes it so great! Not only is it incredibly well written and acted, it goes straight to the heart of all the politics playing around the media today. It deals with censorship, and religion, and morals, and the struggle between the right and the left in the most intelligent way Ive seen on television. Its brilliant!!!

  4. Studio is an extremely well written, well performed, smart and critical show that is simply not appreciated by most of the American public. It’s probably too smart… if they put a fart joke or some bare skin, then more viewers will probably tune in. But, that would take away from the skillful writing and acting taking place. It is, by far and away, the best new show this season on ALL channels. I, too, want to save Studio 60, but I think NBC has decided to can it no matter what. So, I resolved to suggest that HBO pick it up. Even if HBO just shows interest, NBC might realize their mistake and keep it. Interested in helping? 5. Brilliant Writing? CHECK!
Amazing cast that acts their rears off? CHECK!
An almost cult underground following after only a few weeks? CHECK!
Something different than every other reality, news, political, emergency room show out there? CHECK!
    The support of NBC? hmmmm
An American public that’s ready for its brilliance? NOT YET.

Come on…give it a chance. Think outside of the box. This is one of those shows that is before its time and I hope that someone who wears important pants will realize that and fight to save it.

  6. Hey! Ray Liotta would NEVER bersmirch his golden acting career by starring in a “crappy” show, Shane.

The thing is, I think that the American public is too smart for this show. Nobody really cares about the behind-the-scenes drama on a comedy-variety show. I mean, the only thing this show really has going for it are the quick one-liners that these writers were spouting on the West Wing for seven years.

Besides, it airs on Monday nights at 9. How on earth can NBC be stupid enough to think they can compete with new episodes of American Chopper on that same time slot?

  7. hey Crafty. put a cork in it. so far, you are the only one who reads shane’s blog, that doesn’t like studio 60. it’s easily my favorite new show on television. the writing and acting is fantastic. i hope what the nbc exec said is true and that it is not getting cancelled.

  8. I agree with Poe, Allie & Steve. This show is creatively written & expertly acted. I am sick of these genres being given to us: super-natural shows, blood/gory shows, ridiculous reality shows, dark melodramas.

NBC do the right thing – keep Studio 60 on the air!!!!!!!!!!

  9. THERE IS ENOUGH MINDLESS GARBAGE ON TV THAT REQUIRES ZERO BRAIN POWER. STUDIO 60 MADE YOU PAUSE ON MANY ISSUES AND THINK. THE ONLY OTHER SHOW ON TV THAT IS OF THAT CALIBER IS BOSTON LEGAL. MAYBE ABC SHOULD THINK ABOUT PICKING IT UP, MAYBE ABC ISN’T RUN BY A BUNCH OF MORONIC IMBECILES. IT IS A SAD DAY WHEN ALL OF THE PROGRAMING IS AIMED AT ONE SMALL AUDIENCE. IF I SEE ONE MORE LAW AND ORDER OR CSI OR FORENSIC ANYTHING OR REALITY SHOW SLOTTED FOR PROGRAMING I SHALL FORGET TO TURN MY TV ON ALTOGETHER.

  10. I too side with the majority here.

I believe Studio 60 is easily the best show from the fall 06 season, and am sick about it’s cancellation.

I thought last Thursday night’s episode was one of the best hours I’ve ever seen on TV. Sadly, I think it just took too long to get to the screen.

I’m open to supporting a save Studio 60 campaign. Anybody else interested?
