Grammy Roundup

You know what is both great and horrible about the Grammys?

They are no longer an awards show. They are a really drawn out, sometimes obnoxious collaboration concert…who can we get to sing with who?

Of all the awards shows that go on during this season, the Grammys are my least favorite. I hate the guy who runs it (he really seems like a wank, doesn’t he?) and I think that the people who win are not always deserving. Plus, it bugs me that people like Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana DePandi are the ones telling these people that they have won awards while they are on the Red Carpet and they don’t get the opportunity to go up onto the stage.

Last night was OK. I was happy for U2 and their 5 awards, but Bono seemed…well…off. Kelly Clarkson proved that there is life after American Idol. The Sly and the Family Stone performance was…I don’t know…it just seemed forced. I actually kind of felt uncomfortable watching it. Like a dying rooster was coming to the stage for one last squawk (I suppose the same could be said about the Super Bowl Halftime Show). I thought that the Jay-Z/Linkin Park/Paul McCartney performance was pretty sweet…and I CAN’T STAND Linkin Park. Jamie Foxx and Kanye West’s performance was good, even if that Golddigger song sucks.

Here’s something I just thought about. I really like Maroon 5. A lot. I went out and bought their album maybe the first time I heard the song “Harder to Breathe”. But how long are they going to tour on their Songs About Jane album? That album came out in June of 2002. Yes, you read that correctly. That is almost FOUR YEARS AGO. I think that album is brilliant and that Adam Levine has one of the most unique voices around music.

BUT…

Get back in the studio already. How long can one band capitalize on one album. I think that Songs About Jane has overstayed its welcome. Now, I’ve said my peace.

Mariah…you are a skankier version of Celine Dion, in my opinion. And not as good of a singer. Sure, congrats on your comeback and all that. You are still the most selling female artist EVER. Way to go. Now stop taking crazy pills and just sing. Enough with the arm stuff.

I’m really disappointed that X&Y wasn’t nominated for album of the year. In my opinion, it was much better than their previous Grammy winner, A Rush of Blood to the Head. And as a whole album…it rocks.

So, “Music’s Biggest Night”…just another night.

  1. I agree, X&Y should have been up! Coldplay is one of the best bands to emerge in the last decade! They are so good! I pretty much second everything you said with the addition that at least this year was better then last year’s show. It can’t be all that bad when Madonna leads off!
